The course covers different topics that provide students and staff with the basics for learning instructions and precautions for laboratory work as part of their education or employment at UiA.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student should have:
Knowledge

Have knowledge of information, requirements and precautions when working in laboratories at UiA

Have knowledge of methods and tools students need when planning and conducting safe laboratory exercises

Have knowledge of preventive fire protection
-
Have knowledge of first aid in case of accidents
Skills
-
Be able to apply knowledge about HSE when carrying out tasks in laboratories
-
Be able to work with machines, chemicals and work processes without endangering themselves or others

Be able to use various methods of extinguishing fires.

Be able to use standardized forms for risk assessment and deviation reporting system.

Be able to perform basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of a defibrillator.
General competence

Be able to reflect on one's own role and responsibilities related to HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment).

Be able to adapt tools for HSE work to different situations and needs.

Be able to assist fellow students or employees in an emergency situation by knowing how to use first aid equipment and fire equipment correctly.
Teaching methods
The course is divided between digital lectures and physical practical exercises.
