Course contents

Course includes:

  • work with instrument performance methods adapted to various group formats

  • analysis and review of relevant works and literature of instrumental methodology

  • work with different problem solving methods for common instrumental performance problems in groups

  • work in a systematic manner with understanding and application of terms related to instrumental methodology

  • supervised professional training using students from schools of music and performing arts focussing on instrumental problem solving in groups

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will:

  • be able to define achievments, as well as instruct and mediate in teaching situations with instrument performance groups

  • have an overview of relevant instrument performane teaching- and methodological literature for instrument performance groups

  • be able to apply various methods within group-based instrument performance groups instruction

  • have knowledge of mechanisms that influence instrument group learning

  • be able to plan and facilitate group learning and instruction

  • be able to analyse and correct instrument performance issues in different group formats

Examination requirements

  • Recognized attendance for the lessons

  • Recognized individual oral presentation. Duration, approx. 15–20 minutes

Teaching methods

The course is conducted through lectures, group lessons and individual lessons. Students are also provided supervision. Professional practise experience is provided both individually and in groups. Further information about work-related practise is provided through Canvas at the beginning of the semester.

 

Parts of the tuition is mandatory. These will be presented in Canvas at the beginning of the semester. 

 

Expected workload for an average student is 27 hours per credit.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Individual portfolio-delivery consisting of:

  • Part 1: A reflection note of 500 words

  • Part 2: A reflection note of 500 words

  • Part 3: A reflection assignment of 1000 words
