Course contents

The course is rooted in two sub-divisions: Artistic, inter-aesthetic work methods and dialogue -based project work. The core is the development of communication/presentation skills through two practice-based projects where students collaborate with an external partner, such as a school, a choir, a cultural enterprise or a freelance ensemble. The course theory relates to the projects and current international research on music mediation and dialogue-based interactions.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students shall:

  • be able to plan, execute collaborative musical performances with partners on the outside of campus

  • be able to combine music with other forms of expression through artistic presentations

  • be knowledgeable of culture-political directions and different ideological approaches to music

  • be able to document and exercise critical thinking in relation to artistic processes

Examination requirements

  • Recognized compulsory attendance for the lessons

  • Recognized participation in two dialogue-based musical projects

Teaching methods

The course is conducted through lectures, practical exercises and supervised projects in collaboration with an external educational- or artistic milieu.

 

Parts of the tuition is mandatory. These will be presented in Canvas at the beginning of the semester.  

 

Expected workload for an average student is 27 hours per credit.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam consists of two parts: 

  • Part 1: an individual oral presentation. Duration: 20 minutes. Value: 50%

  • Part 2: an individual written assignment. Duration 21 days. Scope: 3000 words. Value
