Course contents

The course consists of three main perspectives: the field of arts, project development and communication. The course includes the planning and production of two practical projects. The student will develop basic skills in musical communication. The course is based on the assumtion that music should be available to all, and includes work with diverse repertoire. The course also includes a theoretical foundation for practical concert project work. Collaboratice practices in different group constellations provide the core of the work process, both in terms of planning and performance. The student will be introduced to various opportunities for work in a future labour market. Work with concert projects will emphasise raising awareness of how to effectively reach various target audiences, including how concert venue, programme and style of presentation, etc., are selected.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students shall:

  • gain knowledge about producing art- and culture institutions, as well as opportunities of work for performing musicians in the free market.

  • be able to plan, execute and assess two different communication/presentation- and cooperation projects with a repertoire adapted to different target audiences.

  • be knowledgeable of different communcations theories and be aware of what can interrupt and promote succesful communication with the audience.

  • have gained knowledge of and experience with basic responsibilities and contributions withing

  • Recognized compulsory attendance for the lessons

  • 2 recognized assignments

Teaching methods

The course is conducted through supervised projects, student presentations.

Parts of the tuition is mandatory. These will be presented in Canvas at the beginning of the semester. 

 

Expected workload for an average student is 27 hours per credit.

 

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam consists of two parts:

  • Part 1: Project of musical communication/presentation performed in groups with a shared oral presentation. Group assessment. Value: 40%.

  • Part 2: One individual written reflection note. Scope: 1300 words (+/- 10%). 7 days deadline. Value: 60%.

If a resubmitted/delayed exam is to be held, the first part can done individually.
