Course includes:

functional harmony and its analysis

arranging for different instrumentations and genres

basic harmonisation with emphasis on smaller chamber music instrumentations

introduction to selected composition techniques

learning of musical form

intrumentation with emphasis on the specific instruments represented at the institute

analysis of both existing and student’s own compositions
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students shall:

have a good command of harmonic and formal analysis

be able to arrange music for multiple instrumentation

have knowledge of different instruments and their usage

have a good command of basic composition techniques

be able to apply different principles of musical form
-
have knowledge of different methods of notation

Teaching methods
The course is taught in groups with additional individual supervision.
Expected workload for an average student is 27 hours per credit.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

One individual written home assignment consisting of both score and sound result. Duration: 14 days.
Assessment: Graded A-F
