The course is connected to the following study programs

  • Mechatronics, Bachelor's Programme

Teaching language

Norwegian

Course contents

Introduction of modern 3D CAD tools and production of technical drawings. The CAD software used is SolidWorks, which is commonly used in the industry. Special focus on the use of 3D CAD software as a design tool.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student should

  • Be able to use basic methods for 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) modelling. This includes creating parts and assemblies (Software used is SolidWorks)

  • Have a good understanding of how design changes are carried out in Solidworks

  • Have knowledge of drawing standards used in mechanical design

  • Be able to understand/read technical drawings

  • Be able to use CAD software to make technical drawings according to industry standards

Examination requirements

Mandatory lab exercises must be approved by the lecturer for the students to take the exam. An overview of the necessary exercises is given in Canvas.

Teaching methods

Lectures with computer-lab exercises, two or more groups. Modern digital tools are used with regards to report writing and technical drawings

Expected workload for an average student is 27 hours per credit

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

3 hours individual exam in Computer-lab. Graded assessment.
