Course contents

  • Mathematical modeling of technical problems. Problems with the accuracy and precision of modeling. Errors and error propagation.

 

  • Use of MatLab as a tool to implement various numerical methods.

 

  • Solving non-linear equations with a variable using graphical and open methods.

 

  • Solution of linear equation systems.

 

  • Non-linear equations (Newton's method).

 

  • Solution of matrix eigen-value problem.

 

  • Polynomial interpolation.

 

  • Numerical differentiation and numerical integration.

 

  • Numerical solution of ordinary differential equations. Initial value and boundary-value problems.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student will

 

• have basic knowledge of numerical methods in mathematics

 

• be able to use numerical methods to solve differential equations and integrals

 

• be able to model technical problems and then solve them numerically

 

• be able to use MatLab in a numerical solution of technical problems

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.
