Course contents

  • Questions related to teaching and learning of mathematics based on learning outcomes stated in curriculum for primary and secondary school, and on pedagogical theory.

  • Areas of competence: mathematical, didactical-, social, ethical, management and willingness to change and develop

  • Practise period in school

  • Research project related to his or her own practise in school

 

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to

  • analyse the curriculum for primary and secondary school, and based on this analysis suggest relevant learning outcomes for mathematics lessons

  • plan, analyse and evaluate suggestions for lessons in mathematics using knowledge in mathematics and pedagogy

  • teach mathematics in ways that shows mathematical-, didactical-, social-, ethical- and management competence, and to show a willingness to change and develop as a teacher

  • formulate a goal that is both realistic and mathematics educationally relevant for å research project which is based on his or her own practise as a mathematics teacher, make observations which are relevant in relation to the goal, search for relevant theory and apply the theory in analysing the data, and discuss the analysis in relation to the goal of the project

 

Examination requirements

The following must be approved:

  • Practise periode

  • Compulsory attendance in parts of the course, including oral presentation in the group.

  • Compulsory research project on approximate 2000 words based on written curriculum and last practice must obtain a Pass.

 

 

Teaching methods

Lectures, work in small groups, student presentations, use of ICT, 6 weeks of practise in school, research project including study in school. Compulsory attendance in parts of the course (information will be given at the start).

Evaluation

Course evaluation is carried out as a midterm evaluation in accordance with standard procedure in the quality assurance system, chapter 2.1.1., unless other information is given in the beginning of the semester.

Assessment methods and criteria

Individual oral exam, where the compulsory research project is part of the curriculum. Graded assessment.
