Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will have achieved the knowledge and skills to:

describe the importance of effective IS management in organizations

explain the strategic role of IT/IS in an organization

apply key principles and techniques for successful management of IT/IS services, including the procurement, development, implementation and maintenance of information systems and IT/IS infrastructure

identify and discuss different types of IT governance within organizations

identify the challenges of managing the internal IS department, and managing the relations with external vendors

discuss ethical and social issues relevant for the IT/IS field on the organizational and societal level
-
critically evaluate the role of Information Systems within management, and how ICT/IS supports processes and added value within the organization

select key principles and strategies of human resource management related to the IT/IS field within the organization

identify and present relevant current literature on management of IT
Examination requirements
Approved mandatory assignments. Participation in class discussions, case analysis and case presentations is required in order to complete mandatory assignments.
Teaching methods
There will be 6-7 hours of lectures and group work/practical assignments per week. There is obligatory attendance for parts of these sessions. Students complete assignments in groups. This will be a practical or theoretical task related to a business. In addition, there will be preparation for and participation in discussions of current topics in plenary. Expected working hours are about 270 hours.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria
The final grade is based on a written home examination over 2 days and a directory evaluation, both of which count 50%. The grade is indicated by letter grades from A-F. Exam information, including the contents of the folder, is published in Canvas. There is no postponed examination in the folder.
