The course is connected to the following study programs

  • Bachelor's Programme in IT and Information Systems

Teaching language

Norwegian. If there are exchange students who are not fluent in Norwegian participating in the course, the instruction will be delivered in English. Additional information will be provided at the beginning of the semester.

Recommended prerequisites

IS-105, IS-110, IS-200, IS-201, IS-202 or equivalent courses. Some basic knowledge of programming is recommended.

Course contents

This course aims to provide students with a practical approach to the Internet of Things (IoT). The focus is on the development of an embedded system, ranging from problem analysis and system design to implementation and testing. Students will learn how to select and acquire necessary components and sensors for data collection.

The course will also cover fundamental electronics and programming of the system. Throughout the course, there will be a consistent emphasis on equipping students with practical skills and experiences for the application of IoT in various contexts.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course the students should:

  •     Have knowledge of concepts and expressions related to the field of the Internet of Things.

  •     Be able to analyze a self-selected problem within the context of the Internet of Things and propose relevant solutions using theories and methods within the field.

  •     Be able to identify and analyze the components in an embedded system, as well as evaluate relevant limitations and evaluation criteria, both related to technical and societal aspects.

  •     Be able to design, implement, and summarize an embedded system using relevant theories and methods within the Internet of Things field.

  •     Be able to evaluate an embedded system based on selected evaluation criteria.

  •     Be able to communicate knowledge and skills acquired through the course both orally and in a written report, using subject-specific terminology, both through presentations and a written report.
