Learning outcomes

After completion, the student should

  • have a broad knowledge of the technological development in our culture and within the field of study

  • have a wide knowledge of environment and sustainability, and be able to reflect upon environmental consequences in general and upon choice of technology

  • have a wide knowledge of basic principles in chemistry such as build-up of substances, chemical bonding and reactions

  • have knowledge of acids and bases, redox-reactions and be familiar with organic compounds, their structure and properties

  • have necessary skills in using and collecting information

  • be able to update knowledge within the field of study

  • be able to perform scientific writing within given guidelines

  • be able to organize, plan and reflect about own study

  • have understanding of own learning process

  • be able to participate in a discussion within topics concerning own field of study

  • be able to communicate knowledge in engineering in both Norwegian and English

Examination requirements

Students must pass the compulsory assignments in order to take the examination. Module tests are given in the subjects, study strategy, technology history, chemistry and environment. Information about compulsory assignments will be given in Canvas by the start of the semester.

Teaching methods

Lectures and exercise with supervision. Compulsory hand-ins within study strategy are to be delivered. In addition, all students are required to write an academic paper concerning environment, sustainability and technology within their field of study, in either Norwegian or English.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.”

Assessment methods and criteria

Scientific article in either Norwegian or English concerning environment and technology.

The subject is graded as pass/fail.
