Course contents

  • Analysis of profitability in an industry

  • Analysis of competitive advantage and variation of profitability within an industry

  • Stratigic profitabilityanalysis including activity based calculation

  • Performance measurement including balanced scorecard, cost of capital and replacement models

  • Design and use of bonus- and incentive systems

  • Management Systems without budgets including Beyond Budgeting

  • Analyse and design systems for internal trade

  • Account for critical success factors by implementing economic Management Systems

Learning outcomes

  • Knowledge of different strategic analysis methods and accompanying consepts

  • Develop skills to combine strategic analysis and be able to explain how these can be used to design economic management systems in an expedient way.

  • Participate in critical discussions and analysis of economic mangement system.

Teaching methods

The teaching is mostly case- and exercise oriented. The intention is to work on two larger projects throughout the semester. In addition will most of the lectures be cases to illuminate central issues

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

 Written examination, 4 hours, accounts for 40% and portfolio content 60%. Graded assessment
