Course contents

Computers and operating systems, interface, standard equipment and programs. Computer communication and computer network. Simple programming. Laws and rules. Learning process and a small project. Academic writing.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Use the office package in projects (reasonably)

  • Have a general understanding of computers, data security, and laws and regulations regarding privacy protection.

  • Be able to use easy small programs to protect, clean and to use the computer reasonably

  • Be able to carry out simple e-learning projects with problem analysis and solution, and also write a report and show it to an audience

  • Know a little bit about their own learning process

Teaching methods

Lectures, theoretical exercises and laboratory exercises. The exercises take place in the computer laboratory on customized computers with specialized hardware and software. A laboratory engineer, student assistant and/or course lecturer is present. The students get training in development and use of professional software and hardware. The classes are split into groups of suitable sizes so that all students get access to necessary equipment and the help they need to solve the exercises. Some of the exercises involve group work. The problems for the students to solve, are typically development of own programs and hardware.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

Portfolio with assignments. Pass/Fail. Information about the assignments will be given in Canvas by the start of the semester. Postponed examination will not be arranged for portfolio.
