German equivalent to level 2 from Upper secondary school.
Course contents
Part 1: (10 credits); core components:

Basic terms related to German language structures.

Exercises in sentence analysis (mainly non-compound sentences)

Morphology (articles, nouns, adjectives, pronouns, verbs, tense, etc.)

Reflection on the place of grammar in language teaching
Part 2: Phonetics (5 credits); core components:

An overview of the German sound system.

The German sound system, contrasted with the Norwegian sound system.

The phonetic alphabet IPA.
-
Reflection on the place of phonetics in language teaching.
Learning outcomes
Part 1) Grammar: By the end of the course students shall

Have acquired basic knowledge on German language structure.

Be able to analyse simple and (to a certain extent) complex German sentences.

Be able to apply basic morphological and syntactical terminology.

Be able to reflect on the language teacher's place in the teaching of German in school and to identify and classify forms and structures.
Part 2) Phonetics: By the end of the course the students shall

Be able to describe the main traits of the German sound system.

Be able to identify and classify sounds and structures, apply technical terminology and the international phonetic alphabet IPA.
-
Master oral communication situations and be able to serve as language teachers.
Examination requirements
For students in the master's programme for advanced teacher education: The supervised professional training must be completed and passed.
All other students must submit two assignments, which must be assessed as a Pass. Further information will be published in the semester plan.
These assignments are not obligatory for students in the master`s programme for advanced teacher education.
Teaching methods
Lectures, seminars, and oral exercises. Digital and/or interactive learning tools and exercises, made available in Canvas. Regular attendance and active participation in class and in Canvas are recommended.
For students attending the master's programme for secondary education teachers, supervised professional training is included (two weeks).
The workload is estimated at 405 hours.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

Yes. Subject to availability or capacity.
Assessment methods and criteria
For part 1): A 4-hour written examination under surveillence. No examination support material is allowed. Graded assessment. Counts 2/3 towards the final grade.
For part 2): Oral examination (approx. 30 minutes). Graded assessment. Counts 1/3 towards the final grade.
