Prerequisites

The students must have completed at least 60 ECTS credits in the master's course, incl. ME-434.

Course contents

The master's thesis must be an independent work within the field of humanities/social sciences. It is carried out in collaboration with an appointed supervisor. The thesis should normally be individual.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the students should have specialized knowledge within the topic of their master's thesis and master's thesis and master's methods and theory relevant to the master's thesis. They shall have the knowledge and skills to carry out an independent research and development work on a limited topic and communicate the results of this to others.

Examination requirements

Approved participation in at least three seminars, where the student presents a draft of his/her own master's thesis and participates with prepared presentations in the discussion of other students' drafts.

Approved individual supervision.

Teaching methods

Independent research work under supervision. Supervision is an important part of the work on the master's thesis, and both individual supervision and group supervision are given in the form of seminars, where the students present and discuss each other's texts with the participation of supervisors. Each student is appointed a main supervisor and possibly a co-supervisor. The scope of work is estimated at approx. 1080 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

The thesis should be 45-65 pages, exclusive attachments. Graded assessment.
