Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Upon course completion, students will be able to:

• demonstrate experience-based knowledge of the characteristics of the teaching profession and the teacher role

• demonstrate experience-based knowledge of observation and planning of instruction, with an emphasis on school subject 2

• demonstrate experience-based knowledge of instruction of individual academic topics associated with school subject 2

• show familiarity with basic skills in grades 8 - 10

• show familiarity with appropriate teaching materials and various working methods

• show familiarity with basic skills as a basis for learning in upper secondary school; awareness of motivation and its significance for learning

Skills

Upon course completion, students should be able to:

• communicate with pupils

• adapt their own subject knowledge to the pupils' level in school subject 2

• use observation as a basis for working with pupils' learning, with an emphasis on school subject 2

• together with others, plan, carry out and assess instruction, with an emphasis on school subject 2

• facilitate work with the pupils' basic skills in working with school subjects in upper secondary school

• utilise various teaching materials and working methods in their teaching, adapted to the relevant grade

General competence

Upon course completion, students will be able to:

• identify and reflect on ethical issues related to the profession and perform their teaching activities in accordance with such issues

• evaluate their own practice and that of others

• receive and apply feedback from their practice teacher and fellow students

Teaching methods

Courses, team work, individual preparation, observation, work on an observation book, participation in guidance sessions, planning, carrying out and evaluating/assessing instruction.

10 days in upper secondary school in the autumn and 10 days in the spring. The first practice period includes 1 - 3 start-up days and a couple of sessions related to school practice.

Assessment methods and criteria

During the autumn semester, students must have approved attendance in order to proceed with the programme

Upon completion of the teaching practice, students will receive an individual written assessment with the grade of passed/failed. 100% attendance is required to achieve a passing grade. The student assessment must be based on the description of learning outcome.

Students will present the assessment report to the practice teacher at the beginning of the following practice period.
