Course contents

The course deals with ideological, theoretical and research-based approaches to habilitation and rehabilitation. Habilitation of children, youth and adults will be focused on. Attention will also be directed towards work inclusion, and special emphasis will be placed on preventive work, early intervention and adaptation of the inclusive workplace. The teaching will include relevant legislation within the NAV-system and means and measures that are used in workplace adaptation. The course provides an overview of the support system and the roles and responsibilities of the various stakeholders. The course presents challenges and possibilities for improved interaction between services, and in the meeting between assistant and user. An example is knowledge about facilitation of the transition between school and employment.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course the student shall:

  • Have knowledge about the aims of habilitation and inclusion, and challenges related to the realization of these aims

  • Have knowledge about habilitation in a life cycle perspective

  • Be familiar with the frames for user follow-up and work inclusion

  • Be able to identify and analyze resources and challenges of people with special needs, and implement measures directed towards individuals and the environment in order to prepare the workplace

  • Have knowledge about how one, as a professional, can contribute to a smooth transmission between school and working life.

  • Have an overview of the support system and the use of tools and work methods like action plans and individual plans (IP)

  • Be able to prepare for smooth interaction between the professional and the user

  • Be able to secure coordinated intersectional help to people with complex needs

Examination requirements

A group assignment based on an individual plan must be assessed as a pass.
Compulsory attendance at chosen lectures and seminars, see semester plan.

Teaching methods

Lectures, seminars, group work and individual work under supervision.

The workload is estimated to about 400 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Individual term paper. Graded assessment.
