Course contents

The course emphasizes developing skills on the main instrument, ensemble, performance and music theory related to main instrument. Students who have electronic music as their main instrument will also have music production. Students who are songwriters will also focus on text.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, the student shall: 

  • be able to perform and to present music on a professional level
  • have acquired technical flexibility within their main instrument
  • have  knowledge of different stylistic features within popular music genres in relation to their main area
  • have acquired a personal artistic expression in their music making and their creative work
  • be able to handle artistic challenges in a creative, exploratory, and analytical way

Examination requirements

Participation in obligatory tuition activities. Further information is provided in Canvas at the start of the semester.

Teaching methods

The course contains main instrument lessons, ensemble, interpretation, seminars and projects. Each student is given individual tuition on their main instrument.The lessons can be organized in groups if appropriate.

 

For the students in popular music the ensemble is conducted in regular bands and in various projects.

 

For the students in electronic music the ensemble teaching is organized in different areas such as DJ, co-writing, studio band, ensemble or sampling and Live Remix ensemble. Eligibility in ensemble may vary on the basis of student numbers.

Parts of the teaching are compulsory. These parts are presented in Canvas at the beginning of the semester.

Digital tools will be used if expedient. The student must have access to a personal computer. 

Evaluation

The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. 

Assessment methods and criteria

Popular Music:                                                                                                                                                              A 30 minute concert. May be carried out in groups, but assessed individually.  The repertoire is decided in consultation with the main instrument teacher.

Electronic music: Performance in 30 minutes in the form of a concert, presentation or DJ set. May be carried out in groups, but assessed individually.The repertoire and choice of performance form is decided in consultation with the main instrument teacher.

Soundengineer:                                                                                                                                          Soundengineer for a 30 minutes concert on a stage, in studio or a presentation. The repertoire is decided in consultation with the main instrument teacher.
