Course contents

The course provides the student with knowledge of basic software development for control and processing of musical processes, practice on how to apply tools for advanced sound design and practice in assessing aesthetic sound choices and being able to explain these in writing. The student applies analytical methods to acquire technological and musical knowledge. In this way, the student learns to make qualified choices in their own and others' productions.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student should:

  • be able to create and process algorithms for midi data and other sound control information at program code level for use in plug-ins and as independent programs

  • master advanced audio editing tools

  • be able to make qualified and reflected artistic choices

  • be able to discuss artistic challenges and choices in an analytical way

  • be able to design sounds using sound manipulation and various forms of synthesis

Teaching methods

The teaching tis provided in groups, seminars and as supervision.

Parts of the teaching are compulsory. These parts are presented in Canvas at the beginning of the semester.

Expected scope of work is 27 hours per. credits.

Evaluation

The study program manager determines-in consultation with the student representativeselected evaluation form and whether the courses should have mid- or final evaluation in line with the quality system chapter 4.1

An individual practical project assignment consisting of submitted sound production, as well

as a written report describing the work process.
