Course contents
Course includes work on:
- solo- and chamber music performance
- general knowledge of repertoire
- developing a personal sound and artistic expression.
- interpretation and stylistic aspects
- instrumental proficiancy and technical control
- developing the sound pallette and the ability to vary timbre and nuance.
- stage appearance, stage communication and the capacity to engage an audience.
- knowledge of performance practices and tradition.
- knowledge of practice routines and the prevention of stress injuries.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student shall:
- be able to display a personal sound and expression
- be able to communicate a wide range of musical intentions
- have the capacity to vary sound and nuances.
- have a sophisticated control of the instrument with convincing technical proficiancy
- be able to demonstrate convincing stage appearance
- have an overview of performance practices and insights in tradition.
- have an overview of solo- and chamber music repertoire relevant to main instrument.
- show a mature level of judgement and critical thinking in music performance
Examination requirements

Solo performance at minimum 2 concerts organised by UiA.

Chamber music performance at minimum 2 concert organised by UiA.

Satisfactory attendance in lessons, masterclasses and seminars.
Teaching methods
The students will receive individual tuition in main instrument and chamber music, and are exptected to participate in masterclasses, seminars and concerts. During the academic year, students will also take part in various mandatory projects.
Expected workload for an average student is 27 hours per credit.

Assessment methods and criteria
Final exam: The student will perform a concert of a 40-45 minutes duration. Individual assessment.
