Course contents

The objective of this course is to raise awareness about the 21st-century skills and how they can be practically applied in your daily life, education, and future career. The course is designed to enable learners to gain hands-on experience through various activities and projects.

 

The abundance of information available in the 21st century can be overwhelming, and thus the first two modules of the course focus on Information literacy and search processes. These modules aim to equip learners with the skills to differentiate between reliable and unreliable sources of information, as well as identify trustworthy channels to access reliable information.

 

In the third module, the focus is on academic integrity and the importance of building knowledge based on the works of previous scholars. Learners will gain an understanding of the significance of ethical practices in academia.

 

The final two modules of the course are practical in nature, with a focus on Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Social Media in learning. These topics are vital in the 21st century, and learners will apply the skills learned in earlier modules to work collaboratively in teams to address opportunities and challenges related to these topics.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student should:

 

  • Be aware of the knowledge and skills required for success in the 21st century.

  • Practice critical thinking and be able to evaluate the quality of information.

  • Have an overview of different information sources and master the art of smart searching to identify professional sources.

  • Understand resource citation and referencing in academic writing.

  • Be aware of cyberattacks and learn how to deal with threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Recognize the need to protect personal data and identify the rules and regulations that govern data protection.

  • Define the opportunities that new technologies within social media and open AI present for learning.

Examination requirements

Compulsory assignments must be approved in order to take the examination. Information about compulsory assignments will be given in the LMS in use, at the start of the semester.

Online course, group discussions, peer reviews and course project.

Expected workload for students is 200 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Admission Requirement if given as Single Standing Module

Admission requirements for the course are the same as for the master’s programme in Multimedia and Educational Technology.

Assessment methods and criteria

Portfolio assessment. Information about requirements for the portfolio will be given in the LMS.
