EnglishCourse contents
Interaction Design is the process of designing usable and user-centred interactive systems. This course draws from different research areas including human-computer interaction, user-centred design, interface design, psychology and computer science. Students learn the theory and practical techniques to support development of usable interactive systems. The course includes an introduction to interaction design; concept development with regards to the context of use and user requirements; a variety of required tools and methods for designing and prototyping as well as user testing and evaluation of interactive systems. Students learn how to design interactive systems considering users, the usability of the system in a specific context of use and the user experience arising through the use of the system. The course provides the competence to discuss design results and alternatives.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the student should:
know the principles of human-centred design and how to apply them
-
be able to understand and conceptualise interaction
-
be able to apply user-centred design methods and techniques
-
be able to use interaction design tools and technologies
-
be able to evaluate the usability and user experience of interactive systems
-
be able to communicate design results
Teaching methods
The course combines face-to-face lectures; web based learning resources, and design project work. The course is both process and product oriented with emphasis on student learning activities.
More information is given at the beginning of the semester.
Estimated student workload: 200 hours.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.
Offered as Single Standing Module
Yes
Admission Requirement if given as Single Standing Module
The admission requirements for the course are the same as for the master's programme in Multimedia and Educational Technology.
Assessment methods and criteria
Project portfolio with reports and presentations. The assessment given on the project portfolio may be individually adjusted maximum one grade up/down. Graded assessment. Details on the portfolio will be given at semester start in the LMS. For postponed examination, all assignments in the portfolio must be retaken.
