Course contents

  • Design criterion and load analysis

  • Dimensioning against static loads and fatigue

  • Preloaded bolt connections, shafts and shaft-hub-connections, bearings (sliding and rolling element), gear wheels

  • Static linear systems. Solution methodology. Plane elements, Solid elements. Boundary conditions and loads. Introduction to analysis emphasizing the effect of contact.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student should:

  • have knowledge about the design of the most important mechanical systems applied in mechatronic systems

  • understand the function of mechanical systems

  • be able to design and dimension simple mechanical systems

  • develop skills in using Finite Element software

  • be able to apply the Finite element method for structural analysis on representative mechanical components and systems.

Examination requirements

Compulsory assignments. Information will be given in Canvas at the start of the course.

Teaching methods

Lectures, exercises and laboratory work.

Estimated workload for the average student is 27 hours per credit.

Evaluation

Course evaluation is carried out as a midterm evaluation in accordance with standard procedure in the quality assurance system, chapter 2.1.1., unless other information is given in the beginning of the semester.
