Review of TCP/IPv4 services, protocols and routing. IPv6 basics, IPv6 essential functions and services, and mobile IPv6. Internet telephony and protocols. Multiprotocol label switching. Network management and software defined network, Quality of Service, Quality of Experience. Queuing. Performance evaluations (via Markov chain analysis and network simulations).
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the students should

have the knowledge of Internet telephoning protocols and services

have knowledge of mobility in the Internet and the related protocols

understand the concept of QoS and QoE, and its supporting strategies

understand the static state analysis of Markov chain models

be able to analyze and evaluate basic queuing strategies in computer networks

understand the performance evaluation process of an Internet protocol by simulations or by mathematics modelling

understand the concept of SDN and NFV.
Examination requirements
Compulsory assignments must be approved in order to take the examination. An overview of the compulsory assignments will be given at the start of the semester.
Teaching methods
Lectures, seminars, group assignments, supervised written assignments and self-study.
The workload for the average student is approximately 200 hours.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination, 4 hours. Graded assessment.
