It is recommended that students are experienced in working with children and movement, physical activity or physical education in kindergarten, school or after-school recreational programmes.

Contents

Theory on children, movement and development (internet lectures).

Practical sessions with themes which are repeated from theory.

 

Theory related to themes with motor function as the center of rotation:

  • Movement is the intention

  • Childhood, growing-up, and movement

  • Children's development - an entity

  • Motoric development: senses, perception and sense integration

  • Phases in motoric development

  • Psychological conditions which influence motor function

  • How to organize for good motoric learning

  • Adaption for movement development in different environments

  • Games

Knowledge

Upon succesful completion of the course, students will demonstrate:

  • basic knowledge about the importance of movement

  • basic knowledge about conditions of growing up and the importance of the possibilities for movement play

  • basic knowledge about the fact that children's development constitutes an entity

  • basic knowledge about normal motoric development

  • basic knowledge on how to plan for movement in different environments

  • knowledge on different kinds of movement play and traditional games

 

 

Skills

Upon succesful completion of the course, students will:

  • be able to plan for movement play in a gym

  • be able to plan for movement play in woods andother areas in nature

 

 

General competence

Upon succesful completion of the course, students will:

  • be able to plan for, carry out and evaluate play activities for children

  • be able to give professional reflections on how children move in different environments

Examination requirements

Participation in compulsory teaching. Further information about compulsory teaching will be given when teaching starts, at the latest.

Teaching methods

The course will have two meetings of two - three days. Teaching consists of theoretical and practical sessions with compulsory attendance.

The workload is estimated to approx. 135 hours.

Evaluation

The course coordinator decides whether a midway evaluation or a final evaluation in the shape of a meeting between the lecturer and two-three student representatives for all theoretical courses will take place, in accordance with the normal agreement of the quality system, article 2.1.1. In some courses there may be a need for a final evaluation instead of a midway evaluation, or possibly both.

Assessment methods and criteria

Practical in-group exam. Grades A-F will be given (one common grade for each group).
