Course contents

The aim of this course is to introduce students to evidence-based practice in healthcare sciences. It will enable the candidates to understand the background of evidence-based practice and how it has shaped the contemporary thinking of evidence within healthcare sciences. Moreover, the course will seek to investigate the notions of evidence in the participants’ projects.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the candidate:

Knowledge

  • will have insight into definitions, major concepts, and theoretical perspectives in evidence-based practice
  • will have insight and understanding of evidence in healthcare sciences
  • will understand some of the limitations of evidence-based practice

 

Skills

  • can discuss the notion of evidence in their own research projects.
  • can critically analyze, evaluate, and interpret healthcare research.

 

General competence

  • can communicate and discuss scientific issues within and outside the scientific community.
  • can identify ethical issues and understand the relevance of ethics in healthcare.

Examination requirements

The course days, group work, and final assessment are mandatory.

Teaching methods

This course will be taught over 3 days, followed by writing a paper. The teaching and learning methods will consist of a combination of lectures, group work, and discussions. The course will include regular sessions to enable the candidates to relate the learning in the course to their own ongoing research work.

Assessment methods and criteria

The final assignment will be a written paper discussing the notion of evidence in their projects.
