Applied philosophy attempts to take more traditional theoretical philosophy to help problematize and better understand concrete issues outside the core areas of philosophy. This may, for example, be everyday occurrences, political, social or practical challenges.
The course addresses some of these current topics in applied philosophy. What philosophical theories can we apply? How can we best apply them? The specific philosophical theories and themes to which they are applied vary from semester to semester. See the semester plan in canvas for detailed content for the current semester.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:

have in-depth knowledge and understanding of current topics in applied philosophy

be able to discuss and analyze different approaches to and theories about the topics in a critical manner

be able to communicate and further develop these approaches and theories in an independent manner
Examination requirements
A preliminary test must be assessed as a pass. Further information will be given at the start of the semester.
Teaching methods
Seminars. The workload is estimated at 400 hours.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Assessment methods and criteria
An individual term paper (about 6000-8000 words). Graded assessment.
