The course consists of three sections: theory of knowledge, metaphysics and ethics. Each of the three sections is approached in a historical and systematic manner. The section on theory of knowledge offers an introduction to some philosophical and scientific challenges that humans have met and still meet in their search for truth. The section on metaphysics offers an introduction to different views on the nature of reality that are particularly important in western traditions and current debates. The section on ethics offers an introduction to different theories about rights and wrong, good and evil, both for the individual and the society as a whole.

Examination requirements
The course has one obligatory entrance examination which must be approved. More information will be provided at the start of the semester.
Teaching methods
Lectures. The workload is estimated at 270 hours.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria
5-hour written examination consisting of several parts. All parts must be passed. Graded assessment.
