Basic knowledge of fluid mechanics, mechanics of materials, mechanical vibration, and applied statistics. The course requires prerequisites equivalent to the courses from module 2: Offshore wind turbine structures
Course contents
Marine operations of offshore wind turbines- definition, category, analysis methods, design standards, important concepts.
Installation of bottom-fixed offshore wind turbines - environmental loads, lifting operations of monopiles, single-blade installations, dynamics and control.
Installation of spar floating wind turbines- challenges, novel concepts and challenges, design criteria and constraints, and optimization.
Integrated installation methods for floating wind turbines- challenges, the concept of installation vessel, modelling and simulation.
Transportation of floating wind turbines- transportation phase, mooring hook-up, and towing.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the student should:
- have knowledge of marine operations
- be familiar with design standards and best practices for wind turbine installation
- have knowledge of various installation concepts for wind turbine components
- have knowledge of numerical simulation tools for wind turbine installations
Teaching methods
Online lectures and exercises. Estimated workload for the average student is approximately 70 hours.

A digital evaluation will be organized in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment of the individual project assignment leading to Pass/Fail. Further information on the assessment criterion will be given in Canvas at the beginning of the semester.
