The course is connected to the following study programs

  • Offshore Wind Energy

Teaching language

English

Recommended prerequisites

Basic knowledge of fluid mechanics, mechanics of materials, mechanical vibration, and applied statistics.  The course requires prerequisites equivalent to the courses from module 2: Offshore wind turbine structures

Course contents

Marine operations of offshore wind turbines- definition, category, analysis methods, design standards, important concepts.

Installation of bottom-fixed offshore wind turbines - environmental loads, lifting operations of monopiles, single-blade installations, dynamics and control.

Installation of spar floating wind turbines- challenges, novel concepts and challenges, design criteria and constraints, and optimization.

Integrated installation methods for floating wind turbines- challenges, the concept of installation vessel, modelling and simulation.

Transportation of floating wind turbines- transportation phase, mooring hook-up, and towing.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student should:

  • have knowledge of marine operations
  • be familiar with design standards and best practices for wind turbine installation
  • have knowledge of various installation concepts for wind turbine components
  • have knowledge of numerical simulation tools for wind turbine installations

Teaching methods

Online lectures and exercises. Estimated workload for the average student is approximately 70 hours.

Evaluation

A digital evaluation will be organized in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Offered as Single Standing Module

Yes, if there are places available.

Admission Requirement if given as Single Standing Module

Admission requirements for the course are the same as for the Study programme on Offshore Wind

Assessment methods and criteria
