Course contents

This course emphasizes mixing and mastering in real studio settings. The student focus on productions from renowned musicians, as well as mixing student productions. Sound studio is the designated workspace and the student learn how to mix and master professionally. Collaborative projects are encouraged so the student will be trained in communicating verbally, musically and digitally.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student should:

• master the most common digital tools used in mixing and mastering

• be able to deliver a music master production that satisfies the market's technical requirements

• be able to mix a music production according to the current industry standard

• know advanced mixing techniques such as the use of analog outboard processors and hybrid mixing

• be able to communicate and collaborate with others in a studio environment

Examination requirements

• Approved attendance in compulsory classes

• 1–3 approved compulsory assignments

Teaching methods

The teaching is conducted in groups, seminars and supervision in connection with work with assignments.

 

Parts of the teaching are compulsory. These parts are presented in Canvas at the beginning of the semester.

 

Expected work scope is 27 hours per credits.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

An individual portfolio exam consisting of two parts:

• Part 1: Mix and mastered productions for a total of 7 minutes

• Part 2: A written reflection paper of at least 500 words
