Learning outcomes

The student:

Knowledge

  • demonstrates broad knowledge of coordinated, coherent and knowledge-based habilitation and rehabilitation within work with intoxication, mental health work and mental retardation

  • demonstrates knowledge of coping and facilitating autonomy, self-help and self-regulation

  • demonstrates knowledge of public health work, disease prevention and health promotion at individual, group and societal levels

  • demonstrates broad knowledge of causes and conditions that affect cognition and behavior

  • demonstrates knowledge of how health failure, illness and disabilities affect physical, cognitive and social functions

  • demonstrates broad knowledge of people with mental retardation

  • demonstrates knowledge of symptoms and treatment of the most common mental illnesses

  • demonstrates knowledge of children and young people and is able to be a practitioner who takes care of their needs for services and can ensure their participation and rights

  • demonstrates knowledge of how social inequality and social problems such as neglect, violence, abuse, bullying, drug and socio-economic problems affect health, living conditions and quality of life

  • demonstrates knowledge of how suspicion or knowledge of sexual and other abuse should be handled

  • is familiar with current patient processes

Skills

  • is able to apply professional knowledge to critically discuss his/her own work process and different models in social care work

  • is able to apply professional knowledge to analyze and assess tasks and issues that actualize environmental therapeutic work, habilitation and rehabilitation within work with intoxication, mental health work and mental retardation

  • is able to apply professional knowledge in relation to decision support

  • is able to apply professional knowledge to implement necessary measures, and / or treatment of social problems or refer further if necessary

  • is able to apply professional knowledge to promote inclusion, gender equality and participation in all parts of society

  • is able to apply knowledge to discuss different ways of talking to children about topics such as neglect, violence and abuse

General competence

  • is able to plan targeted collaboration processes with service users, relatives and other service providers

  • is able to convey key subject material on environmental therapeutic work, habilitation and rehabilitation in writing and orally to contribute to the development of good practice

  • demonstrates insight into the connections between health, education, work and living conditions

  • demonstrates insight into quality work, is able to assess the risk of undesirable incidents and is familiar with methods for following this up systematically through quality, notification and non-conformance management systems

Participated in compulsory education.

Approved mandatory work requirements.

Teaching methods

Teaching methods include lectures, supervised group work, presentation, skills training, simulation, work requirements, seminars and self-study. There is compulsory teaching in the course. Estimated student workload is 405 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
