The student:

Knowledge

  • demonstrates broad knowledge of problem solving at the individual level through observation, assessment, exploration of values, desires and living conditions

  • demonstrates broad knowledge of communication, interaction and collaboration, and how language and behavior affect this

  • demonstrates knowledge of facilitating environmental therapeutic work

  • demonstrates knowledge of psychological and biological development and learning

  • demonstrates broad knowledge of causes and conditions that affect cognition and behavior in general, and cognitive impairments and developmental disabilities in particular

  • demonstrates broad knowledge of the life situation of people with developmental disabilities

  • demonstrates knowledge of research methods and principles and concepts for assessing scientific quality

Skills

  • is able to reflect on his/her own professional practice and adjust this under supervision

  • is able to apply professional knowledge to analyze and assess tasks and issues that actualize environmental therapeutic work

  • is able to apply professional knowledge to critically discuss his/her own work process and different models in social care work

  • is able to apply relevant methods in mapping and assessment work to identify users' goals and needs as a basis for measures

Examination requirements

Compulsory attendance requirements must be met, as well as completed and passed compulsory work requirements and presentations. See details in the course brochure on Canvas.

Teaching methods

Teaching and learning methods include lectures, group work with supervision, presentations, skills training, simulation, work requirements, seminars and self-study. Compulsory teaching. See detailed descriptions in the subject booklet in Canvas.

Expected scope of work in the course is 540 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Four-hour individual written school exam. Graded assessment.
