UT-101, UT-107 UT-113, UT-114, UT-203, UT-204, UT-200 and ME-107 or an equivalent course in research methods.
Course contents
The bachelor thesis is based on the student’s project description and fieldwork. The problem statement of the thesis must be related to the field of development studies. The students will work independently with the thesis, but will be provided supervision.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:

write a structured academic thesis based on analysis of data by use of theoretical perspectives and concepts

communicate the results of an independent research project

respond to a problem statement through the application of a research design, research methods and relevant theoretical perspectives

use and produce knowledge on the chosen research topic and the local/national context in which the research is located

communicate commitment to ethical guidelines and critical reflection on their own research position

apply critical perspectives in discussing development issues in concrete cases and contexts
Examination requirements
Obligatory supervision. There will be a requirement of minimum three supervisions.
Teaching methods
Students are provided with a supervisor from UiA. The compulsory seminars in UT-200 will also be essential for analysis and writing of the thesis. Supervision will be provided as part of the exchange programme with partner universities. Peer-student collaboration is also offered in some countries. Estimated workload is 405 hours.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.
Assessment methods and criteria
Bachelor thesis, approximately 12 000 words individually, or 18 000 in pair (group based assessment). Graded A-F.
