Course contents

In this course, we focus on the creative elements of theatre practice. Through practical work and rehearsals, students will become familiar with processes, methods and techniques of a selection of theatre styles, and become aware of the theatre’s ability to express ideas, attitudes and feelings. Students will also be trained to view their own creative work in relation to different artistic views and views of the world. The work is intended to inspire the students to start their own and collaborative artistic projects and processes.

Learning outcomes

After course completion the student must have achieved the following:

  • Master the basic skills in a selection of acting methods and techniques.

  • Have become acquainted with different methods of contemporary theatre creation.

  • Be able to choose methods techniques and modes of expression in their own theatre practice.

  • Use of theatre terminology and be able reflect upon intent, choice of process and aesthetic methods.

  • Have learnt to give constructive feedback on the creative process.

  • Have become able to complete a theatre project, as well as participate and understand the processes of theatre.

Examination requirements

  • Approved attendance for mandatory lessons.

  • Approved mandatory assignments. Overview of mandatory assignments will be published on Canvas at the start of the semester.

  • Completed practical artistic group projects.

Teaching methods

The teaching of the course is based on an interplay between analysis, practical work and theoretical reflection. During the production period, mandatory work presentations / seminars will ensure progress and reflection on the practical work.

Some classes in select subject matters are mandatory. These will be highlighted on Canvas at the start of the semester.
Expected workload is 27 hours per credit.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral presentation to fellow students and examiner, based on completed creative arts practice project.

Evaluation method: Graded by letters.
