  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of how organs and organ systems work in relation to each other and how pathophysiological processes and current diseases, surgery and injuries start, develop and treat

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of intensive care within current topics to prevent complications, reduce stress and relieve suffering, pain and discomfort, treat and rehabilitate

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of intensive care and intensive medicine for different age groups (newborn, children and elderly)

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of the importance of multicultural understanding in intensive care and intensive medicine

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of various ethical dilemmas

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of quality assurance and patient safety

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of communication and interaction in teams (ISBAR and CRM)

Examination requirements

Two portfolio assignment submissions by the assigned deadline (see the course booklet).

At least 80% class attendance.

Teaching methods

Lectures, simulations, group work and independent study.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

The examination consists of two parts:

  • A 4-hour individual school examination at the end of third semester (counts 60 % of the final grade).

  • Individual home assignment. Up to two supervisions can be given, one of which is mandatory. The assignment is delivered in the second semester (counts 40%).

Both examinations must be passed. One final grade is given.
