Knowledge

• demonstrates advanced knowledge of the intensive care nurse's function, responsibility and competence areas

• demonstrates advanced knowledge of experiences and reactions to acute and / or critical illness

• demonstrates advanced knowledge of communication and interaction with patient and relatives

• demonstrates advanced knowledge of how organs and organ systems work in relation to each other and how pathophysiological processes and medical conditions start, develop and are treat

• demonstrates advanced knowledge of hygiene, microbiology, anesthesia, pharmacology, pathophysiology, intensive medicine and surgery in relevant topics

• demonstrates advanced knowledge of intensive care within current topics to prevent complications, reduce stress and relieve suffering, pain and discomfort, treat and rehabilitate

• demonstrates advanced knowledge of the steps in knowledge-based practice, what knowledge-based practice means and how they can apply the knowledge in intensive care

Skills

• is able to observe, critically evaluate / analyze, show connections and integrate medical and natural sciences as the basis for professional intensive nursing care

• is able to conduct critical assessments and apply knowledge of experiences and reactions to acute and / or critical illness in communication with the patient, relatives and health personnel

Examination requirements

At least 80% attendance of compulsory classes is required.

Teaching methods

Lectures, simulations, group work and independent study.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

The examination is in two parts:

• 5 hour individual written examination (counts 60%)

• Home exam over 5 days - written individual assignment of approx. 3000 words with group guidance offer (counts 40%)

 

Both parts must be passed. A joint grade (A-F) is given.
