Knowledge

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of experiences and reactions to acute and / or critical illness

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of communication and interaction with patient and relatives

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of how organs and organ systems work in relation to each other and how pathophysiological processes and diseases start, are developed and treated

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of hygiene, infection prevention, microbiology, anesthesia, pharmacology, pathophysiology, intensive medicine, anatomy and surgery in relevant subjects

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of the indirect patient-directed function with regard to the organization of surgical activities, professional management, delegation of work tasks, teaching and supervision etc.

  • demonstrates advanced knowledge of surgical nursing in current topics to prevent complications, reduce stress and relieve suffering, pain and discomfort, treat and rehabilitate

Skills

  • is able to analyze, show relationships and integrate medical and scientific disciplines as a basis for professionally sound surgical nursing

  • is able to use current research that is relevant for future professional practice, critically evaluate and facilitate the application of this knowledge in one's own practice

Examination requirements

At least 80% attendance of compulsory classes is required.

Lectures, simulations, group work and independent study.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam is in two parts:

  • A 5 hour individual school exam (counts 60%)

  • A home exam over 5 days - written individual assignment of approx. 3000 words with group guidance offered (counts 40%)

Both parts must be passed. A joint graded mark is given for the two part exams (grades A-F).
