Recommended prerequisites

Theory Courses should normally be completed before one can get guidance in connection with a thesis.

Course contents

Content will mainly relate to the student's chosen topic and to the student's work with this. Through the thesis, the student will apply the theoretical, analytical and methodological expertise they have acquired throughout the program. The emphasis is based on an explicit linkage of theory and empirical knowledge.

Learning outcomes

After completing the thesis, the student:
- Could formulate a research question and answer this by using research methods and theoretical perspectives
- Could acquire knowledge related to the subject they are dealing with, related to the scientific context the chosen theme is a part of
- Have a thorough knowledge and skills about how a scientific work are planned and executed
- Be able to communicate the results of research- and developentprojects

Examination requirements

In connection with the thesis there will be held compulsory seminars. There shall be prepared a project, to be approved to get straight to the guidance associated with the task. After completion the thesis should be orally presented at a seminar, both the assignment and the main findings should be presented.

Teaching methods

Master's thesis is basically an individual work. Students are entitled to supervision and will be entiteled to have a principal supervisor. The relationship between student and supervisor are regulated in a counseling contract.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

It is drawn up guidelines for thesis about the scope, content, implementation, procedures, guidance, curriculum, form, submission, evaluation, copyright and publicity requirements, etc. A copy of the guidelines can be obtained from the faculty, they are also available in the course room in Canvas.

Master's thesis will be evaluated by the supervisor and an external examiner. The deadline for the master task is six weeks from submission. See also info on theses on UiA sites.
