Course contents

The course addresses historical events, conflicts and cooperation that have contributed to global social change. The course focuses on global and environmental changes in society. Emphasis is placed on deepening in a variety of historical conflicts and events that have characterized the development of modern society. The topic also focuses on discussing different perspectives on demographics, migration, localization, development and resource management in a globalized world.

The course in practice
The course has a clear subject didactic perspective, emphasizing methods and theories that promote critical competence and creative learning processes. Work with the explorer and creative learning processes will be the focus of student practice.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

After completing the course, the student will:

  • have a deep knowledge of climate, environment, resource and resource conflicts nationally and internationally

  • have insights into different perspectives on development, demography, and migration

  • have a thorough knowledge of research and development work in the field of study

  • have a deep knowledge of global conflicts and events that have influenced world history

  • have insight into the subject didactic theory and research on social studies at the school.

After completing the course, the student will:

  • be able to work independently with academic questions and analyze professional issues based on the facts and theories of the subject area

  • be able to use and evaluate digital tools and sources in the training

  • be able to analyze life forms and living conditions in different parts of the world

General competence

After completing the course, the student will:

  • be able to reflect critically on social issues, stimulate critical thinking

  • be able to lead professional discussions and work with the dissemination of key values ¿¿the subject

  • be able to understand relevant social issues in historical perspective

  • be able to contribute to social science didactic thinking.

Examination requirements

Work assignments and practice must be passed in order to take the exam. Detailed description of work assignments will be provided through Canvas. The course is entitled to 70% attendance in order to pass the exam.

Primary school students must have: Passed practice. Other students must have: Passed academic didactic work of equivalent scope as practice.

Teaching methods

The teaching will be characterized by a variety of lectures and seminars with a touch of conversation, reflection, digital learning, group work, exercises, presentations, excursions, etc. Three weeks of professional practice with supervision are included in the course. There are 15 days practice for elementary school students. Other students must perform a subject didactic work of equivalent scope that must be passed. The course has an expected workload of about 400 hours

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

48 hour individual home exam and 4-hour written examination under supervision. Each exam counts 50%.
