This course provides an introduction to international politics, internationalization and globalization from a historical and comparative perspective.
The course is divided into three parts and starts with an introduction to the development of international community and classical studies of relations between nation-states. In part two the focus will be on more recent theories of international politics, internationalization and globalization, as well as the debate as to where this development will lead. Finally, we discuss different regulations of international relations, with a special focus on foreign policy and rules of diplomacy, international law, international integration, cooperation and organization.

On sucessfull completion of the course, the student should be able to

Give an account of main actors and institutions within the field of international politics and describe the relationship between them

Give an account of central theories within the field of international poltics.

Give an account of main problems and challenges within the current international community.

Use this knowledge to make critical analyses and reflections on international institutions

Account for theoretical discussions about current issues in international politics.

Discuss differences between the principles within international law and human rights principles within the field of international politics.
