Topic nine: Sexological alertness in work situations

  • Sexual behaviour in institutions

  • Sexual counselling in institutions

Topic eleven: Sexuality and sexual problems in various phases of life

Topic twelve: Understanding own attitudes. Sexual Self Acknowledgement (SSA)

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student will:

Knowledge

  • be familiar with the relation between different diseases and sexuality, and how treatment may affect sexuality. The student will also be familiar with sexuality´s importance for health. The student will also have met sexual cultures and subcultures, and have processed his/her attitudes for various sexual expressions. The student will also have been introduced to the national and international distribution of the academic field of sexology.

  • have knowledge about the relation between disease, functional disability and sexuality.

  • have knowledge about life in institutions, organization and the clients´ need of privacy and sexuality.

  • have knowledge about prostitution and expressions in sexual cultures and subcultures.

  • have knowledge about sexological approaches in clinical work and in research, nationally and internationally.

Skills

  • have learnt how to respond to the need of counselling and support for various groups

  • have learnt how to be attentive to sexual problems in various work situations

  • have an understanding of one´s own knowledge, attitudes and limitations

General competence

  • have learnt to see how sexuality changes throughout life and how problems are expressed in different phases of life

  • have learnt how to relate to various sexual expressions, and how to adapt methods for approaching counselling and therapy

  • have a consciousness of different ways to experience sensuality, eroticism and love

  • have an understanding for professional sexological approach to sexual problems

Examination requirements

  • Approved participation in compulsory group tutorials.

A five-day seminar will be arranged in a large city, e.g. Amsterdam.

Estimated workload is 405 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

A graded 8-week individual at-home examination. Please see guidelines in the course brochure.
