Course contents

The course contains of 13 subjects that together gives the students foundation to lead HSE work in a business or project. The course undergoes models and different tools to map the HSE situation and gives examples and templates used to implement work of improvement. The course will review the following subjects:

  • What is HSE ¿ before and now

  • Legislation

  • HSE regulations

  • HSE policy and goals

  • Health

  • Environment

  • Safety

  • Internal control (IK)

  • Practical methods

  • Requirements and implementation of training

  • Form design

  • Procedure examples

  • Fire instructions and contingency plan

Learning outcomes

A candidate who has successfully completed this course should have the following learning outcome defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

  • Have knowledge of the legal and regulatory requirements for HSE work.

  • Have knowledge of methods and tools they will need for HSE continuous improvement in HSE.

Skills

  • Be able to apply the knowledge in practical measure implementation to improve HSE culture in a business.

  • Be able to work on basis of the Internal Control Regulations and be able to evaluate what measures should be taken to improve the working environment of the company.

  • Be able to customize HSE work tools for different situations and needs.

General competence

  • Could collaborate with others in group and project work

  • Have an overview of the entire HSE regulatory framework in businesses and an understanding of what the HSE work is intended and what it means.

  • Gain knowledge about the systematic and evaluation of HSE work.

Teaching methods

The course will be taught through lectures, group assignments and company visits. A total of 50 hours over 6 whole days/gatherings. Tasks are done in groups and presented in plenary. Tasks and support sheets is handed out at the gatherings.

Evaluation

Course evaluation is carried out as a midterm evaluation in accordance with standard procedure in the quality assurance system, chapter 2.1.1., unless other information is given in the beginning of the semester.

Assessment methods and criteria

Individual written examination, 4 hours, 50 % of final grade. At-home group assignment, 50 % of final grade
Graded assessment.
