Course contents

The course Human Resource Managment refers to all HRM activities concerning planning and initiatives to recruit, develop and lead employees who can produce results that help to achieve organizational goals. The course provides a systematic introduction to the theory underlying the recruitment, development and management of knowledge workers in modern organizations. We describe and discuss research-based knowledge and systematic testing of measures that describes and explains how to successfully create results through human resources. We go in depth on how skills development combined with career and leadership development can be key factors for success. We are particularly interested in how leaders can utilize evidence based knowledge about what motivates employees and affect their way of thinking and acting in organizations, and what one must take into account when adding up to reform and change in organizations.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student should:

 

  • have a thorough knowledge of evidence-based knowledge in the HRM area

  • be able to describe and explain developments in research and practice about HRM

  • be able to apply theory to develop, implement and evaluate HRM measures

  • be able to discuss and decide how HRM interventions work in relation to organizational goals

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

Individual project counts 40 % of grade. The individual project should not exceed 15 pages.

Five hour written examination counts 60 % of grade.
