ORG109 Organisation Theory and TFL126 Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility, or equivalent.

Course contents

This course provides an introduction to HRM in a Norwegian context, but also explores how HRM is challenged by new demands for increased flexibility and globalization.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course the students should be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of different perspectives on personnel management and HRM

  • demonstrate knowledge of the Norwegian Industrial Relations System and be able to reflect over «The Norwegian Participatory Model», including the role of industrial democracy and collective bargaining

  • discuss how HRM is challenged by changing contexts within which the firm operates

  • reflect over the firms’ HRM in view of United Nations’ Sustainability Goals and the firms’ corporate social responsibilityunderstand the importance of recruitment as a strategic HRM-instrument

  • discuss why diversity and inclusion are HRM responsibilities

  • understand the importance of the employee as a resource for the organization and demonstrate knowledge about how to conduct the annual employer-employee dialogue as an HRM instrument

  • demonstrate knowledge of, and be able to discuss, organizational learning in light of skills and career development.

Examination requirements

Minimum 80% attendance in group sessions. More information will be given in Canvas.

Teaching methods

Lectures and group work. Estimated workload is about 200 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam consists of two parts. Part one is an individual home exam constituting 40% of the final grade. Part two is a home exam written in groups of 3-4 students and constituting 60% of the final grade. Letter grade.
