Course contents
Focus will be on

the development of translation competence through practical exercises done alone and in groups

the linguistic, textual and cultural analysis of different text types and genres
-
identification and discussion of specific translation problems relating to cultural aspects, linguistics and text types in addition to terminology
-
translation of various general language texts into Norwegian

practicing information search techniques in relation to translation
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course, students should be able to

identify and make decisions relating to specific translation problems in concrete situations involving translation between English and Norwegian

consider, choose and argue for appropriate translation strategies

produce adequate and correct translations from English into Norwegian
Examination requirements
Six individual translations, including three with a reflective text of 300-600 words, must be assessed as a Pass.
At least two of the translations must be in the student’s secondary language form nynorsk, or bokmål.
Teaching methods
Teaching will be in the form of lectures and student work. Students work with texts and terminology alone and in groups. Workload: 135 hours are required to complete the course.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria
Four-hour written examination (translation of a general language text accompanied by a reflective text of 300-600 words). Graded assessment.
