The course is a study of literary theory. The themes may change on a yearly basis, but will be founded in current research within the field of literary science, and related to ongoing research activities at the faculty. A detailed description of the scientific content will be available when the semester starts.

have advanced knowledge about a selection of text-oriented, context-oriented and reader-oriented literary theories, and about how they can be used in literary analysis

have in-depth knowledge about the history of literary studies and discussions about questions related to scientific theory

Examination requirements
Approved oral presentation.
Teaching methods
Lectures and seminars. The students are actively participating in discussions and analyses. All students must give an oral presentation. The workload is estimated at 400 hours.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
Assessment methods and criteria
An eight-hours individual written examination. Graded assessment. The exam must be written in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language (Swedish or Danish). Dictionary use is allowed. The evaluation will emphasis on professional content and communicative skills. When it comes to assessment of language, the students' linguistic background will be taken into account.
