Course contents

Specialization in Nordic linguistics. The theme varies from one year to another, but the basis will be recent scientific research and be related to the research activity in the academic environment. A more detailed description of the contents will be available before the semester starts.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the student shall

Knowledge

  • have advanced knowledge about the thematic field, including scientific theory and method

  • be able to use the knowledge independently on new fields within the thematic field and in other scientific contexts

Skills

  • have the ability to work independently with theories, methods and interpretations within the thematic field, both practically and theoretically

  • be able to assess and criticize information sources, theories, methods and interpretations within the thematic field

General competence

  • be able to use his/her knowledge and skills when meeting relevant scientific challenges and change processes in society

  • be able to communicate scientific problems, analyses and conclusions within the thematic field, both to specialists and people in general

Examination requirements

The practice perid or an alternative task must be completed and approved. This will be specified at the start of the semester.

Teaching methods

Seminars. A 2-week practice period where the students work with language and/or literature. All students must make a presentation based on an individual assignment during the course of the semester. The workload is estaimated to about 400 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

An oral examination. Graded assessment. The evaluation will emphasis on professional content and communicative skills. When it comes to assessment of language, the students’ linguistic background will be taken into account.
