Norwegian

Prerequisites

Recommended prerequisites

The recommended level in Norwegian, both written and oral language, is B2 according to CEFR (the European Framework).

Course contents

The course gives an introduction to the literary analysis of lyrical, epical, dramatical and essayistic texts. Emphasis is placed on the theories of genres, narratological terms like narrative perspective, point of view, and composition, as well as the analysis of poetical qualities related to figurative language, rhetoric, and verse. The course focuses on texts from the last 100 years, with particular emphasis on works that have been important for the development of recent Nordic literature. Students will work with a broad selection of Nordic poetry, essays and works where texts and pictures interact. More than historizing and understanding epochs, the course aims at illustrating distinctive, aesthetic characteristics of the selected texts and placing them within a genre theoretical context. The analysis aims at increasing text comprehension and, at the same time, keeping the literary experience in focus.
