Norwegian

Course contents

The course mainly focuses on subjects related to Norwegian, to learn more about the Norwegian language and develop the skills to translate into Norwegian. Subjects like Norwegian grammar, morphology and syntax, Norwegian spelling (including standardization and adapting the spelling of loanwords) will be central to the teaching. Through text-focused working methods, students are able to develop the skills they need for professional language translation. In correlation with this, the students will also use analogue and digital language resources.

  • has in depth knowledge of relevant aspects of Norwegian professional language and terminology.

  • can form sentences in idiomatic and formally correct Norwegian.

  • can make deliberate and well-motivated choices related to communication and professional language when translating into Norwegian.

  • can use analogue and digital language resources in an appropriate manner in Norwegian.

The student

  • can utilise their knowledge of the main characteristics of modern Norwegian and the current state of Norway’s linguistic context.

  • can handle ethical issues related to the use of Norwegian in professional practice.

Examination requirements

Students must complete and pass two mandatory assignments to be allowed to complete the examination. This will be specified in Canvas.

Teaching methods

Teaching and learning methods consist of a combination of lectures and student participation through for example working with texts, both individually and in groups.
Estimated workload: 270 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Individual written home exam lasting two days. Grade A to F.
