Course contents

During the course, the student will learn what the demands are for writing competitive project descriptions in the field of music. The course provides competence, experience and practical training in developing and communicating a defined scientific or artistic-scientific project with a problem formulation relevant to the student’s artistic or scientific theme. The student will learn about different analytic approaches to how she/he can design a good project and a suitable written format for its project description. The student will be provided the tools to navigate between various external funding opportunities aimed at strengthening their project development and application work.

  • Approved completing of online teaching activities

  • Approved accomplishment of individual supervision

Further information is given through Canvas at the beginning of the semester.

Teaching methods

The course includes online teaching and learning activities and individual supervision. The online portion of the course is performed through Canvas and deals with how to analyse, design, plan and structure a project in a way that gives the reader a good, full comprehension for what it proposes. The online knowledge and skills foundation are nurtured through individual supervision where the student should connect the former to her/his theme and the relevant formats, methods and traditions affiliated with it. Supervision can be done on campus, online or as a combination of the two working- and teaching methods.

The student should, in agreement with her/his supervisor, choose an approach to a problem, hypothesis or research question, as well as a field of study relevant to her/his theme to be presented through a project description with relevant attachments. This should highlight important perspectives and aspects inherent in the project’s nature; for instance: the projects theoretical and methodological framework, project implementation, background and aim, dissemination of results, ethical problems and issues and gender perspectives. The student shares the responsibility with her/his supervisor to make a plan for the work. Throughout the course, the students will also participate in master classes and seminars with internal and external pedagogues, scholars and performers. The students can also participate actively in one of the university’s research groups.

The expected workload for students is 27 hours per credit.
